Our first call on digital twin privacy is open
Open Science Foundation Team

Today we open our first funding call Verifiable privacy for digital health twins with CHF 200'000 total funding and up to CHF 20'000 per application.
A digital twin brings together wearable measurements, lab results, medical images, genomic data and much more to give a complete picture of an individual's health. For the person concerned, keeping track of what happens to that information becomes increasingly difficult. Data is fragmented across different healthcare providers, apps and cloud services. Even a seemingly limited answer from a digital twin can reveal something very personal.
With this call, we want to support research that gives people a way to check how their own health data are protected.
What we are looking for
The call covers four areas: storage, computation, aggregation and sharing. A proposal might explore how someone can verify that a deleted copy is no longer readable, check which software processes their data, or measure what repeated disclosures reveal about them over time.
The focus is one person's health data. Each contribution must allow that person to verify the relevant protections.
We will also use Theoria, an open-source verifier, to help investigate proposals' main research questions. While the report is advisory, an independent expert panel decides and everyone receives written feedback.
How to apply
Applications are welcome worldwide, from people working independently or within institutions. Projects will run for six, nine or twelve months, starting on 1 February 2027.
The deadline is 15 December 2026.
