Open Science Foundation is now part of the Metascience Alliance

We are very happy to join the Metascience Alliance as a participating organisation, and to become part of a vibrant open science community. The Alliance is a global, cross-sector coalition that brings together researchers, funders, institutions, publishers, policymakers, and infrastructure providers working to strengthen how research is conducted, evaluated, and communicated. It is in a two-year pilot phase, catalysed and operationally supported by the Center for Open Science, and the Open Science Foundation is now listed among the participating organisations that have signed its Letter of Intent.

Why we are joining

In our own projects, open science is the one principle that connects the dots. In the OpenTwin project we develop open standards, protocols, and reference pipelines to build, validate, and apply digital twins in medicine. In the Open Hardware project we develop openly documented, freely licensed scientific instrumentation that anyone can build, modify, and share.

In the Alliance we want to bring our experience of building open tools into the conversation, and to learn from colleagues tackling open science dissemination elsewhere.

Looking ahead to Montreal

The next large gathering of the metascience community is Metascience 2027 in Montreal, from 14 to 16 June 2027, presented by the Tanenbaum Open Science Institute (TOSI) and the Center for Open Science. The conference is a separate initiative from the Alliance, though many of the same organisations take part. We are very much looking forward to it as an opportunity to meet in person and discuss the future of open science.
