Brand guidelines

These guidelines describe how the Open Science Foundation presents itself in print, on screen and in conversation. They apply to reports, presentations, social posts, documents and the website.

The brand idea

Scientific knowledge as a global commons. The Open Science Foundation is a Swiss foundation that funds and conducts open science. It supports open research, shared infrastructure and the people who put open science into practice.

The identity starts from an open, continuous process. Dots gather, separate and form new relationships. A stable name gives that movement a clear institutional voice.

Values

Four values shape what we publish and how it looks.

ValueWhat it means
OpennessMake knowledge accessible.
TransparencyShare methods and processes.
CollaborationWork through shared infrastructure.
ReproducibilityEnable others to build on the work.

Design authority

The website is the reference. Its theme defines the palette and the type scale, and the pages in this section quote it exactly. Templates for slides, documents and social posts adapt the same values to their medium. Where a template and the website disagree, the website wins.

The default visual direction is called Open editorial: a stable left edge, generous space, flat surfaces and one clear title per page or slide.

Sources and licensing

These pages are adapted from the brand guide repository, which also holds the design tokens, the logo masters, the website animations and the 27-page visual guide (PDF), edition of 10 September 2026.

The guideline text is published under CC BY 4.0. The logo artwork is not: it is covered by a separate, limited permission described on the trademark page. The commercial typefaces are not part of the brand guide and are not distributed.
